The Working Principle of multimedia filter

1.Filtration stage

  • Raw water enters the water distribution device on the top of the filter tank through the water inlet pipe, and is evenly distributed on the surface of the filter media.
  • Water penetration from top to bottom, the first contact with the upper layer of anthracite filter media, its porous structure adsorption of organic matter in the water, colloidal – After preliminary filtration of the water flow to the middle quartz sand filter media, quartz sand uniform particle size of fine particles for screening and filtration, to further reduce turbidity
  • The bottom pebble filter media plays a supporting role to prevent the loss of quartz sand, but also can intercept a small amount of impurities that have not been filtered by the upper layer of filter media.
  • The purified water is collected into the water collection device at the bottom of the filter tank.

2.Backwashing stage

  • After the filter has been in operation for a certain period of time, the accumulation of impurities on the filter media surface increases, leading to higher filtration resistance. At this point, the backwashing programme is automatically initiated.
  • Backwashing water enters from the bottom of the filter tank, rinsing the filter media from bottom to top, causing the filter media layer to loosen and expand, with trapped impurities being flushed out with the water flow.
  • For large-scale equipment, air backwashing is performed first to use compressed air turbulence to dislodge impurities from the filter media surface, followed by water backwashing to enhance backwashing effectiveness.
  • After backwashing, the filter media layer naturally settles back into place, restoring the filtration state.

What are the advantages of multimedia filter?

1. Multi-layer filter media synergistic filtration

Selected anthracite, quartz sand, pebbles and other filter media are filled in layers according to scientific grading to form a gradient filtration barrier.
Compared with the single media filter, the removal rate of impurities of different particle sizes is increased by more than 30%, and the turbidity of the effluent can be stabilized below 0.5NTU.

2. Intelligent full-automatic control

  • Equipped with PLC control system, it can automatically adjust the filtration and backwashing mode according to the water quality and flow rate.
  • Support remote monitoring and operation, reduce 90% of manual intervention, reduce the labor intensity of operation and maintenance personnel

3. Super strong adaptability

  • Can deal with turbidity 5-500NTU of various types of raw water, including surface water, groundwater, industrial wastewater, municipal sewage, etc.
  • For special water quality (such as high salt, high organic matter), can be customized to add activated carbon, manganese sand and other functional filter media

4. Efficient energy-saving design

Optimize the water flow path, reduce the head loss, operating energy consumption is 15% lower than traditional equipment.
Short backwashing time (only 10-15 minutes), water consumption is 3-5% of the filtered water, much lower than the industry average

5. Strong durability

  • The filter tank is made of high-strength glass fiber reinforced plastic (acid and alkali corrosion resistant) or stainless steel 304 (food-grade standard), with a service life of more than 15 years.
  • The filter media is specially treated to resist abrasion and sloughing, and the replacement cycle is extended to 2-3 years.

What is the difference in between a multi-media filter and a triggered carbon filter?

A multi-media filter largely removes suspended solids, colloids, and other particulates from water to decrease turbidity; a triggered carbon filter focuses on adsorbing organic substances, odours, recurring chlorine, and various other contaminants from water.

Usually, in a water therapy procedure, the multi-media filter serves as a pre-treatment gadget, while the turned on carbon filter works as a subsequent innovative therapy device.

How typically should the filter media be changed?

Generally, the replacement cycle for anthracite and quartz sand filter media is 2-3 years, while crushed rock filter media can be utilized lasting.

The real replacement cycle depends on the quality of the raw water and the operating time of the tools. When the filtration effect substantially lowers and can not be restored through backwashing, the filter media must be changed quickly.

How often should backwashing be carried out? .

The backwashing frequency is established based on raw water turbidity and filtration water quantity, commonly 1-2 times per day.

The equipment can immediately initiate backwashing based upon pre-set purification time or inlet/outlet stress differential to make sure steady filtration performance.

What initial prep work are needed for tools installment?

Adequate setup space have to be scheduled, with a flat and strong ground efficient in supporting the equipment weight (particular dimension drawings can be supplied).

Piping: Inlet and outlet pipes must work with the equipment user interfaces, with shutoff installment settings scheduled; backwash drainage pipes need to be unblocked, and the drain electrical outlet position should be lower than the tools.

Power supply: Provide a three-phase a/c power supply that meets the devices requirements, and install a circulation box.

Structure: Large equipment (e.g., DJ-3000 design) calls for a concrete foundation, while little devices can be positioned straight on a flat ground surface area.

Can it take care of high turbidity raw water (e.g., turbidity > 100 NTU)?

For raw water with turbidity > 100 NTU, it is recommended to install pre-treatment devices (such as sedimentation storage tanks, displays, etc) prior to the multi-media filter to decrease the turbidity of the inbound water.

We can also tailor-make high-load multi-media filters by optimizing the filter media grading and boosting the filter media density to enhance the therapy capability for high-turbidity raw water.

What safety measures should be taken throughout equipment procedure?

Frequently inspect the inlet and electrical outlet stress and circulation rate of the tools to guarantee operation within the ranked parameters.

Observe the backwashing effect throughout backwashing to make sure detailed backwashing.

Throughout winter season when temperature levels are reduced, implement insulation measures for the equipment to prevent pipe cold and splitting.

Regularly maintain the tools control system to ensure typical automatic operation performance.
